Generally we recommend planting your trees in the Autumn, Winter and the early part of Spring.
With cell grown trees, you have more latitude than bare rooted trees. A bare rooted tree needs to be in the ground before it comes into leaf, thus the window of planting opportunity is greatly reduced.
You’re generally looking to plant trees when they are relatively dormant, that way they are a little bit more durable. If they’re in full leaf, they’re taking up water and transpiring it through their leaves. Young plants don’t have the root development yet to continually suck the water out of the ground and, as a result, can become drought stressed.
We don’t want this to happen!
We suggest letting our young trees out into the big world at a time when they’re not going to get stressed. That is, when they are not in full-on growing mode – i.e. best in the Autumn, Winter and early Spring (maybe even into April in this part of the world, or further North).
In simple terms – you can plant our trees out during any month with an ‘r’ in it!
